Mr. Kenemer
5th Grade

Mr. Kenemer  1.  Was teaching always something you wanted to do?

Like most boys growing up, I always wanted to be a professional athlete, a baseball player in particular. Unlike most adults, I still hold on to this dream, and I continue to add more radical jobs to the list, such as be filmed in a movie or become a professional Yo-Yo competitor. Looking back when I was younger, I do remember writing a paper when I was in 5th grade about being a teacher. In the paper, I talked about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote how I was going to be both a professional baseball and football player and then retire from sports to be a teacher. I figure getting one out of my three dream jobs isn’t bad.

2. Outside of school what do you like to do for fun?

I like to fill my life with games. I enjoy anything that is competitive, ranging from active sports like ping-pong , dodge ball, basketball, and softball, to fun sit down games like risk, catchphrase and playing games on my Wii.

Mr. Kenemer and students from class all work together to get a part of their snow caterpiller across the playground.

3. You play Korfball, something not very many people have heard of. Give us a little bit of a background on it, and what exactly it is you do.

In a sense Korfball is like a lot of sports combined. The biggest difference you will notice is that it is a co-ed sport, 4 girls and 4 guys are on a team. The ball is shaped as the same size as a soccer ball. It is also like basketball because the object is to shoot the ball through the hoop, however the hoop is 11 ˝ ft tall, and has no backboard. Unlike basketball you may not dribble or move while you have the ball, so it is very much like Ultimate Frisbee. The sport was originated in the Netherlands, and is most popular in Holland and countries surrounding it. Because of the lack of knowledge and popularity in the states, I was fortunate to be the team captain on the USA National team that competed in the World Cup in Czech Republic in 2007. We placed 13th out of 16 teams.

4. How long have you been teaching?

I am currently in my 2nd year, but I student assisted/student taught for one year. And I was also in 5th grade for one year. So I like to think I have 4 years of experience.

5. What do you enjoy most about CTA?

I really enjoy the staff and students. Whether it is lunch staff sneaking me a few extra cheese sticks on my tray, a kind 3rd grader holding the door for other students, or Mr. Bohl letting me use his grassy knoll for an afternoon activity, everyone is looking to reach out and help each other. I love that.

6. If you could give your students one word of advice to live by for the rest of their lives what would it be?

Pick a job where your work and play are not that far off from one another.
